Healing the Whole Person
Mental health encompasses our emotional, psychological, and social well-being, affecting how we think, feel and act. The state of our mental health also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and how we make choices in our everyday lives. Prolonged depression, anxiety, bipolar, PTSD, and other mental health disorders can be debilitating. If left untreated, these issues can seriously impact your quality of life, affecting your ability to work, parent, socialize, and maintain relationships.
ADHD
Individuals with ADHD or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder tend to be more impulsive and likely to have behavioral problems that can contribute to drug and alcohol addiction. It is also more common for children with ADHD to start abusing alcohol during their teenage years.
Anxiety
Those suffering from anxiety disorders often experience intense, sustained anxiety and nervousness, while a panic disorder is marked by recurring, unpredictable panic attacks. Various issues arising from panic/anxiety disorders include a sense of sadness, low motivation, substance abuse, and health problems.
Bipolar DISORDER
Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depression, is a serious psychological condition causing individuals to experience extreme shifts in mood, attitude, behavior, and energy. Those with bipolar experience manic highs and depressive lows that can last for prolonged periods of time.
Depression
Often expressed as persistent unhappiness, hopelessness, and the loss of interest or pleasure in previously enjoyed activities, depression can seriously impact the quality of one’s life, if left untreated. Depression can be caused by a number of factors with most cases involving some type of trauma.
PTSD
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health disorder that we’ve become more aware of in recent years, but that doesn’t mean we fully understand what it is and how it works. PTSD develops after someone witnesses or experiences a traumatic event.
Dual Diagnosis
It’s very common for those struggling with addiction to have dual or co-occurring disorders. In other words, substance abuse often goes hand in hand with emotional trauma or mental health disorders like depression, anxiety, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In some cases, one disorder leads to or causes another. Other times, they exacerbate each other.
